Your stumbling blocks CAN shrink

We all have stumbling blocks. Those things in our lives that we always seem to get caught up on or that we believe about ourselves that keep us stuck. For example: “I am just too big in my hips- so I can’t wear that” or “I always feel so stupid when I speak up around my friends, and I don’t think they listen-so I will just keep quiet”

Coulombs Law (for those of you who like physics) states that like attracts like. What we focus on is what we attract. When we believe we are successful, beautiful, or engaging, then we will easily attract those things.

Imagine you are sitting around and listening to your thoughts that are saying, “Geez, you are such a loser. No wonder no one likes you.” So, in response you don’t call your friends, you don’t look around for anything fun to do. When a friend calls, you have already made up your mind subconsciously that she is just trying to be nice, but deep down doesn’t really think your that special. Maybe she just couldn’t find anyone else to hang out with.

It is all such a load of crap! And we do this all the time. We convince ourselves of crazy things, that could be related to a real circumstance that was painful, but that we let explode in our mind to a much bigger story.

To really get past your limiting beliefs, or your stumbling blocks, it takes a radical change in what you think and believe. Regardless of your current circumstance you can start to believe things can be different. Begin to picture yourself doing what you would like to do, wearing the kind of clothes you think would be great, or having the friends or job that you would love ot have. Think through what that would mean to you. How would you think about yourself with these things already happening in your life. Hang on to the answers you get- and start thinking and acting like it has already happened. Of course you would say yes to a friend that called to hang out. You are wonderful to be with!

Tweens and National Eating Disorder Week

Next week, February 21st-27th is the National Eating Disorders Awareness week.  Festivities to raise awareness for the devastation of disordered eating will be going  on across the country.  Of course, the Tween2Queen classes will also be starting this week!!  These classes are meant to help girls ages 9-13 love the skin they are in, and to build a strong mother-daughter bond for increased connection so that body image issues and “fat talk” can be addressed and talked through.  Did you know that many girls start paying attention to what they eat from a dieting standpoint by age 8?

I found this video today that talks about an  operation beautiful campaign to get women and girls posting encouraging notes in public places to remind ourselves that we are beautiful, we are enough, and that a scale cannot tell us our worth.  I am in love with this idea.  It is so easy to slip into a mode of self-destruction.  We compare ourselves with everyone around us, and we wonder why we never feel like we will ever measure up.  Did we every stop to wonder why we are using another person as a measuring stick?  YOU are beautiful.  You are lovely. You are unique.  You are needed to be the person you are to impact this world for your talents, character, and personality.

Local events will also be offered at the University of Colorado in Boulder including eating disorder screenings and panel discussion with experts on Monday 2/22/10 at the UMC.  CU will be showing 2 great films at 6pm  on 2/23/10 and 2/24/10 respecitively for:  Miss America 2008 Kristen Haglund: “Freedom from Perfection:  Overcoming Body Wars, Diet Culture, and Taking Back Our Souls” and “America the Beautiful:  Is America Obsessed with Beauty?”  Also offered during the week will be a workshop for “How to Help Someone with an Eating Disorder”.  For more information contact felicia.greher@colorado.edu.

Don’t forget…it isn’t too late to get involved with your tween and still get a free $15 iTunes gift card by signing up for the fun Tween2Queen class starting 2/24/10 at 6:45pm at the Solstice Center in Boulder.  Kick that negative body talk to the curb with us!!  Contact Nicole at 303-482-6290 to sign-up today!

Tween2Queen: Coming Soon to Boulder!!

Magnificent, Beautiful, Wonderful, Gorgeous…that’s what you are.  Don’t believe me?  Then you have to come to the Tween2Queen class starting in April 2010.  We spend 4 weeks together for an hour and a half each session doing fun things like playing crazy games, kick-boxing, partner yoga, and belly dancing while getting real about how we can love our bodies without judgement or negativity.

This class hits home, too, because you get to create lots of artsy stuff to keep you head and heart in a loving mode even when the class is over.   Better yet, it might even give you and your mom a chance to connect and build each other up instead of always fighting about what you eat, what you wear, and how you look!   Please join us!!

Classes start April 7th from 6:45-8:15pm at the Solstice Center (west end of Pearl in Boulder).

The cost for classes is $149 per mother/daughter pair (includes materials and instructor fees).  Sign up before March 25th and get a free $15 iTunes gift card!
