How often do you hear, "I'm too old for this"? And how often do you think, "But you're too young for that"?
Welcome to the Tweens: a generation of fashion-conscious, fad-loving, filled-with-attitude youth. You thought angst was a teenage phenomenon. Your 12-year-old is so moody, she begs for attention one minute, and then pretends you don't exist the next. You want to keep your 10-year-old in pigtails, but she tells you belly shirts are the bomb.
It's a constant struggle: the desire for independence versus the need for boundaries. How much can you accept? What cannot be ignored? How do you decide? How can we be sure we stay connected while still allowing our Tween girls to explore and develop their own sense of confidence? Most importantly, how can we continue to instill positive mental and emotional self-talk that will bring our young daughters into adulthood with grace, high esteem, and a healthy attitude regarding her self-worth?
The answer may be tricky. But the more involvement you have in your child's life, the easier your communication will be. And communication is the key. This 4 week series creates an environment for mom’s an daughters to move, think, and build their relationship in such a way that open’s an honest doorway of communication. In a day and age in which outer beauty and image are the main criteria for acceptance to a young girls eye, it is imperative that we address their inner beauty and health. We must as “developing queens” ourselves, stand for the purpose of respecting our individual strengths by instill confidence in girls before they begin turning to drastic measures to fulfill in their sense of worth and value.
During this series, girls and their mom’s will be educated on a variety of fitness and wellness tips that help girls to move and explore their bodies in a fun and new environment. Each class revolves around a specific theme that captures the message of the day, some of which include: “listening to your inner voice”, “Being able to say no”, “Realizing your inner dragon of power”, etc. Each class will include a time for discussion that is prompted by a creative arts project to bring more power to the message of the day.
The class is one and a half hours in length and is held once per week over a 4-week period. Cost for the total series is $150/mother-daughter pair.
A positive body image health & fitness series for 9-13 year old girls & moms.
